This card is a post card
advertising the lithograph of artist Robert S Simon entitled “Masters of the
Millenium”. The back of the card is hard to read, so here is what it says: A Robert Stephen Simon Masterpiece Edition Limited to 1100 Brilliant original Lithograph 26” X 26” Image size Pre-Publication Price $265.00 The Master of Montage Art, Robert Stephen Simon, has created a magnificent work. Captured here in radiant colors, is a tapestry of the ladies and gentlemen, who made the 20th Cdentury-Golf’s Golden Era. Simon has woven with his paintbrush, the excitement of golf’s heritage. Only Robert Stephen Simon could create such a painting. PO Box 607 Lebonon, IN 46052 |

In 2001 Upper Deck issued “2001
SP Authentic Golf”. The full base set has 136
cards with several different subsets. The true base cards are the first 44
cards in the set and are called SP Authentic. Other base subsets, include
Fairway Greats, Major Players and Ambassadors of Golf, for a total of 90 more base
cards. All 90 cards were also produced in a Gold parallel numbered to
500. This issue is still one of the most popular modern golf products to-date. 2001 SP Authentic Golf still offers a lot to collectors many years after the initial release. In 2020, a hobby box was selling for near the $5,000 price. |
This
card comes from the "Legends Sports Memorabilia" magazine which was
first published in the Winter of 1988. LSM magazine covers were
drawn by several well-kown artists of the time and the artwork is
amazing. The paper stock of the cover and the beautiful artwork
made these magazines suitbale for framing and soon became sought after
by the numerous sport collectors of that era. The sports figures featured on the covers range from past legends to current legends in the making. The first edition featured Ruth, Mantle, and DiMaggio on the cover and in the articles. This first edition was Cover H1 - V1 - N1, which stands for Hobby Edition 1, Volulme 1, and Magazine #1. There are several golf covers featuring Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods. There were also sheets of nine cards in the magazines featuring a variety of sports legends. Below you can see the magazine and nine card sheet where the Ben Hogan card is featured. |
2002 17 cards |
The 2002 Upper Deck SP Authentic Golf issue is similar to the 2001 issue in that it has a "Base" set and then many "Subsets" in which Hogan cards are found. |
|
Another of the subsets of the 2002 Upper Deck SP Authentic Golf is the "Collectors Club" which had 21 cards in that subset. The Ben Hogan card is #11 in that subset. |
The "Cut Signature" subset has 9 different cards with a Print Run of 12 for each card. These cards command a high premium whenever they come up for sale. |

There
are 9 cards in this set. These cards are designed for collectors
as they have "souvenir value only", as per the issuer. There is another similar set, called a Gold set, of which I have only seen one card. It is a card of Byron Nelson. The card says "Gold Set 18 of 20" on the front. But then it states "Card 9 of 10 on the back. I am not sure if this truly is from another set, and if so, if there could be a Hogan card in this set. |
2005 4 cards |
This
set is the only golf set issued by JF Sporting Collectibles.
However, this company is know for several other issues involving
athletes, film stars, military, railway, shippin, aircraft, and much
more. The golfers in this set are mainly from the 40' and 50's, but many had their beginnings in the 30's. Not too many household names are found in this set. You can order card sets, including the golf set with Ben Hogan, at JF Sporting Collectibles. You can also order the individual Hogan card in a MATT or GLOSS finish in three different sizes. |
This description of this set as found on the website of "The London Cigarette Card Company of London". Nick Oldham is responsible for the artwork and these colour caricatures are very good images of twelve of golf's greatest legends. This set includes pre-war champions like Bobby Jones, Walter Hagen and Henry Cotton through more recent favourites like Nicklaus and Faldo to Tiger Woods. The description for him suggests he is "fast becoming the best player of all time." You can also see the errors on the back of the Hogan card stating (1) that Mr. Hogan was born in Dublin, Texas (actually Stephenville) and (2) his year of passing is listed as 1977 (actually 1997) |
Here is some information from the Parody Productions website about this deck and other decks of playing cards. Information from Upper Deck about this issue: This is another baseball issue with 200 cards in the base set composed of retired legends. As with most sets being produced during this time period, there are many subsets to go along with the 200 card base set. One of the subsets is the Classic Cuts subset that features non-baseball subjects, one of which is Ben Hogan. Some cards in this subset are 1 of 1 or have several dozen of each card. The Ben Hogan card is #'d to 5. |

The Sportkings B Series is a continuation of
the 2007 “A” Series. The B Series has
three packs per box and three cards per pack.
In each pack, you should expect to find at least one relic or autograph

Information
about these "coin cards" is very scarce. I have read that these
are from a company located in Canada. I have also seen stated that
these cards started appearing on Ebay around 2008, so I am going to put
all 8 Hogan cards that I know about here in 2008.
Different designs include: (1) Photo with border, circle around
coin with logo under the coin; (2) Photo with border, no
circle around coin, logo under coin; (3) Photo without border, circle around coin, no logo under coin;
(4) Photo without border, no circle around coin and no logo under
coin; (5) Card looks like it is cut into puzzle pieces. Prototype cards and Dealers Samples also exist. The coins in the cards are found in various denominations including penny, nickel, and dime. You can find cards of boxing, hockey, horse racing, baseball, golf, movie stars, basketball, political, and Native Americans. |

This is another of Upper Deck's issues with a tremendous number of subsets. One of these subsets is "Mystery Cuts Redemption". When you got a redemption card from one of the packs, you still were not sure which Cut Signature you would be receiving. This issue came in 16 box cases. Each box had 12 packs with 5 cads per pack. On average, there was one Mystery Cut Signature Redemption card in each 16 box case. |
Information about the set that this card was part of: Another 2009 Upper Deck release is called "Prominent Cuts". It is a multi-sport (and non-sport) product set. The standard set consists of 90 cards. The memorabilia cards focus on Hollywood History. Cut signatures will be found as Prominent Cut singles as well as Dual and Quad Cuts.
